The Misfits In Marketing was founded by Ron Gerber (Chief Misfit), an award-winning 14+ year veteran in e-commerce web design & operations, direct marketing, and mail order/catalog operations. In 1992, Ron had started a traditional mail order catalog company targeting the automotive aftermarket industry, selling parts & accessories directly to Jeep and SUV owners. In early 1994, before the Internet craze took off and before his competitors caught on, Ron was at the forefront of the web revolution, bringing his company online and morphing it into an early version of an eCommerce site.
Back then, the average cost of developing a fully dynamic database-driven e-commerce site was over $100,000. Not having that kind of a budget, Ron developed the company's site himself, hand coding and creating hundreds of static pages. As the catalog company grew, so did their online business. A few years later, Ron and his company became a beta test site for the Smith-Gardner MACS system which ultimately became the eCometry platform. After eight years of growing the company into a successful multi-million dollar brand, with customers in over 55 countries worldwide, Ron sold the company to their largest competitor.
